Welcome to the Employment page
Most countries have international schools which provide educational services for the children of expatriates working there. The size and number of the schools depends on a number of factors: first, of course, is the size of the expatriate population; second, and just as important, is the presence of local students in the international school. Some countries specifically forbid national students from enrolling in international schools, others allow it. In Pakistan, for instance, Pakistani students make up the majority of the international school student population, especially in Lahore.
Below is a list of international schools by country. This list is by no means complete. I will add schools to the list as I become aware of them. As my interest is in teaching in South and Southeast Asia, international school listings for those areas will be the most complete. Working in South and Southeast Asia has a number of benefits: one, the cost of living is relatively low outside of Singapore, and pay is fairly high on the international standards; two, Asia offers incredible travel opportunities. While I was working in Pakistan, my colleagues routinely took vacations in Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Thailand.
This page is rarely updated. My international teacher blog has over 100 international school reviews that are regularly updated. You might want to have a look over there for the most recent information on international schools.

sense of humor. That should be interesting based on the humor
of my Aussie friends. Application forms are online.

Sekolah
Tiara Bangsa , is one of the national plus schools in Indonesia.
National plus schools were originally created to get around the former restrictions on Indonesian students attending international schools. The national plus schools were created for students wealthy enough to pay fairly stiff fees, but not wealthy enough to study overseas. I was opposed to the idea at the time and am still conflicted about elitest educational facilities. Of course, every country has them, and they serve the purpose of educatiing the elite of a country, but, old lefty that I am, in the end why not raise the level of all schooling in a country. That being said, I taught in a school similar to this in Pakistan, so I've sold my services to a school that served the elite. What I found when teaching in Pakistan was that the students graduating from that school had little understanding of their country and the problems that faced it. They were more comfortable traveling through Europe or America than visiting a public market in their hometown. This is the problem that I have with elite educational institutions in developing countries. It's not inconcievable that some of the students will end up serving the people, but how many will use their advanced knowledge to continue extorting money from the poor masses of citizens, or manipulating funds from foreign governments for their own use?
Singapore
International School, is located in Jakarta. It has two campuses

Japan

or living in Japan.
Canadian

Japan. The school was founded on Christian concepts. Its mission
is to prepare students for higher education mostly in North American.
The school was founded in 1913 and is an IB school. Faculty usually

also looking for teachers with experience overseas and in using
technology in their teaching. You can get an application online,
as well as take a look at salary and benefits.
Kuwait
American
School of Kuwait, was founded in 1961. Salaries range from
about $USD 25,000 to 31,000. ASK hires certified teachers with
at least two years experience. They actively recruit singles,
couples and families. The school website has a list of all benefits,
etc. for overseas teachers, as well as a very complete description
of the school and its program.
Laos
Vientiane International School,
has a very informative web site which is easy to navigate. They
have a pay scale on their web site with the high end of 15 years
and a masters being worth about USD $37,000. This isn't a whole
lot of money when you consider that a teacher with 15 years experience
in California can be making $75,000 per year now. Still, this
is tax free and definitely not in California. The school gives
a housing allowance which is a nice benefit compared with schools
that provide school owned housing where all the teacher's live
in the same space. The school also offers car and computer loans
with a few other things.

are: American, Korean, Japanese, Malaysian, and Australian. ISKL
was founded in 1965. The school offers a US based curriculum with
IB and AP programs. 1200 students from 50 countries attend ISKL
making this a very international school. The school prefers teaching
couples, and all teachers must be certified with a minimum of
three years experience. While teaching salaries are not mentioned
on the website, they note that they are very competitive. Job
applications are available online.
Dalat
International School, is one the of Malaysian international
schools. Dalat is located in Penang, an island just off the Malaysian
coast. Dalat is accredited by WASC and the Association of Christian
Schools International. The web site says that, "The mission
of Dalat International School is to prepare young people to live
fully for God in a rapidly changing world by enabling them to
understand, evaluate, and reconcile that world with the foundation
of God's unchanging values." Employment at Dalat is dependent
upon the teaching applicant being a "committed follower of
Jesus Christ." A copy of the staff contract is on the web

accredited, independent private school which has been in operation
since 1994. It offers education
for students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade twelve. The curriculum
is based on a US model. They have a very complete faculty handbook
online which will give you an idea of how the school operates,
what its philosophy is, and what they expect from their teachers.
They also have a guide for prospective teachers which gives you
a feel of what life is like in Trinidad and Tobago. Interestingly
enough, the school is very honest in advising prospective teachers
that it is unlikely that they will be able to save money with
the salary offered. Good thing to know if you are seriously into
saving up for retirement.The
maximum salary with 20 years experience at ISPS is $28,000 with

American
School of Dubai, has a nice little website filled with information.
ASD has close to 1,000 students of which about 70% come from North
America. It is a co-educational school from students from preschool
to grade 12. The school is accredited by Middle States. They hire
teachers with U.S. and Canadian certificates, and there are over
70 teachers currently teaching at ASD. They use a U.S. based curriculum
and have what sounds like an incredible campus from the information
on their website. Dubai is a very Western friendly country and
living there seems to be fairly comfortable. Starting salaries
range from USD 28,000 to 34,000 with the maximum salary being
$45,600. ASD also offers a cost-of-living allowance which they
pay in Dirhams. This can add another $8,000 to your salary. Now
the negative part about the financial package - you have to pay
20% of your medical and dental insurance, U.S. citizens have to
pay 7.65% of their base salary into Social Security and Medicare
and have to pay New Jersey unemployment tax. Now in spite of these
little glitches (the package in Pakistan is much better), the
average stay at ASD is 9.5 years which is pretty impressive. Teachers
must enjoy living and working there if they stay that long. If
living in the Middle East sounds good to you, this school sounds
like a place to check out.
United States
Reach
Every Child|Welcome, is
a very complex site created by Horace Mann: Educated Financial
Solutions. This page is full of links for teachers who want to
teach in the United States. Now, I know that this is a page of
international schools, but I have met many nationals in the countries
where I've lived who want to move to the US to teach, as well
as international teachers who want to repatriate. This page has
links to state certification sites, US school districts, opportunities
for ESL teachers, international job offerings, job fairs, and
much more. If you are a teacher looking for a position, this is
a valuable site.
Uzbekistan

the use of technology in its curriculum. It is accredited by ECIS

teachers through ISS and Search fairs. For those of you who don't
know where Uzbekistan is, the school website has this to say:
"Uzbekistan is a desert area in Asia, north of Afghanistan.
It is about the size of California, U.S.A., and has 24 million
people. Uzbekistan has long, sunny summers. Many days are above
100 degrees Fahrenheit, or 40 degrees Celsius. The sand reaches
158 degrees Fahrenheit, or 70 degrees Celsius, on hot days! Tashkent,
Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva are famous Uzbek cities. Tashkent
is the capital, and about 2.3 million people live here. It is
the largest city in Central Asia and the only one with a subway."
Sounds like an interesting place to teach.
Vietnam

stat on its about page - the breakdown of the nationalities of
their teachers. Check out their page to find out what the story
is.
EFL Jobs
EF
Jakarta, is the
website for English First, an English language company in Indonesia.
They offer EFL positions in a variety of cities in Indonesia. They don't
mention the salary they offer although they say that it allows
a comfortable lifestyle (which is highly open to interpretation).
They provide housing which you pay rent for. The contract includes
27 hours of teaching a week.
Job
Search in Indonesia, is a page from jobmonkey.com which has
information about teaching English
in Indonesia. This site has good information, but they have made a serious error in discussing salary ranges as they convert 1.8 million rupiahs to US$800 while it is more like US$200, a substantial difference. Nonetheless, you might want to take a look here if you are planning on working in Indonesia.
New Century School, is located in Karachi, Pakistan. They offer US$800-1000 per month along with free, furnished housing and other perks. Karachi isn't exactly the safest place in the world, but my former students said it was much more lively than Lahore.
Serious
Teachers: International Alliance of Teachers and Employers,
is a site that I just came across. I'm listing it down here because I'm not
sure where else to put it now, and my guess is that they hire predominately English teachers. I'll check this out in the near future and post more.
Teachermania, is another EFL site which has specific sections for teaching English around the globe.
