Welcome to the Art page

I have to say, and everyone that knows me will gladly agree, that I am terrible with anything resembling art. I can make a fairly decent stick figure, but that's about it. Nonetheless, I strongly believe that art is undervalued in the curriculum of most schools. So, here is a start on using the internet for teaching art.

holderArt Institute of Chicago, is the home of one of my favorite places during my hippie days. I used to wander the museum for hours either alone or with friends. What a fantastic museum. Back in those days it was free, now it has a hefty price of admission. But, you can do a virtual visit for free and access over 54,000 works and information about works of art. You can also set up your own collection for free, save it and share it with friends. This is a great resource for teachers.

blue dot holderArt Project, comes to us from Google. This cool site lets people explore some of the major museums of the world and view over one thousand works of art in detail. You can zoom in on the art and you can wander around the museum. Another great art site for teachers, students and the rest of us.

Artcyclopedia, is a site that has some interesting information about art and artists. You can find a list of the 30 most popular artists, recent art news, scans of famous art, a list of art museums by countries, and more. If you are an art teacher or just interested in art, this is a site that you may find useful.

Artsonia Student Art Museum, is an online museum where you can place student art. This is a site for schools and teachers to use so that parents can see their children's work online. This is an excellent site for the international art teacher if s/he wants to display student artwork for relatives back "home." Artsonia is an educational company based in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Their goals are to: 1) Integrate technology into the classroom; 2) Develop multi-cultural understanding; 3) Increase parental involvement in their children's education.

blue dot holder Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, comes from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It gives readers a view of art history that is organized by time, space and theme. It's a great tool for students and teachers. The timeline goes back to prehistory and continues up to the present. Included are world maps, timelines, essays, works of art and indexes for those scholars who want more research. You can go to the world map and select a region and then look at the timeline, selected works of art, and related information. Very cool for art and art history teachers, as well as for those of us who just love art.

button Pattern in Islamic Art,has images from Islamic architectural decoration around the world. Some of the images are from the website creators own work and others are from various sources. If you are interested in Islamic art, you should check out this site.

place holder button Sistene Chapel, comes from the Vatican and is a 360-degree view of the Sistene Chapel along with some beautiful music. Just incredible. I've always wanted to see this wonder, and now thanks to technology, I've been able to do it. A great resource for the art teacher, history teacher or anyone who wants to see one of the most beautiful works of art ever created.

Vincent Van Gogh Gallery, if you want to find out about Van Gogh this is the place to look. Here is an entire website dedicated to the famous post impressionist.
